Our investment project that will considerably increase the production of premium sole has become a reality. We have started work on a new sole farming and fatening plant, which will be located in the Port of El Musel (Gijón), marking a further step in our commitment to sustainable growth. We currently have three further plants in Portugal and Galicia. This investment in Asturias will bring the total production capacity to upwards of the 1,500 tonnes currently produced.

The first stage of the project will start with the construction of a first state-of-the-art production module, where we will be able to apply all of SEA EIGHT’s know-how, including the innovative RAS (Recirculation Aquaculture System) technology. This has been developed entirely by our team of professionals with the aim of achieving greater sustainability and care for the marine environment. This stage will involve an investment of 12.3 million euros and will create close to 25 jobs.

Jaime León, SEA EIGHT’s CEO, states that: “Through this investment, we endeavour to consolidate our leadership in the premium sole market. Our goal is to supply the broad demand for sustainable and high quality sole on a global level.

The new plant in Asturias will become a global benchmark for sustainable aquaculture production on land. Under our strategic plan, one of SEA EIGHT’s goals is to reach more than 3,000 tonnes of production in the forthcoming six years. In partnership with the Government of the Principality of Asturias, the comprehensive plan has a forecasted investment of 73 million euros and foresees the creation of 145 new jobs in the area over the upcoming six years.
