Roberto Centeno is appointed trustee of Fundación Banco Santander

Roberto Centeno, president and co-founder of Atitlan, has been appointed patron of Fundación Banco Santander (FBS), the institution through which Banco Santander carries out its patronage work.

Roberto Centeno holds a degree in Economics and Political Science from Brown University (USA). Before founding Atitlan in 2005 with his partner Aritza Rodero, he worked in the financial sector for Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch in London.

Created in 1992, the mandate of the Fundación Banco Santander is to “build a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable society”, for which it channels its work into three main lines of action: culture, social action and education.

The Foundation has been directed by Borja Baselga since 2009 and has a Board of Trustees composed of ten members chaired by Rodrigo Echenique, which is now expanded to fourteen with three new trustees, including Roberto Centeno.

The FBS governing body meets at least three times a year to set operating criteria and approve its activities and budget, which is funded by contributions made annually by Banco Santander.

According to the code of good governance, the positions on the Board of Trustees are appointed at will, are unpaid, and have a one-year term, without prejudice to their being eligible for reappointment for successive terms of the same duration, indefinitely.

With this new responsibility, Roberto Centeno expands his commitment to social impact projects, which he already carries out through Atitlan in collaboration with foundations linked to education and development cooperation.
